Is outdoor adventure your thing? Do you have the hospitality skills to work as a lodge manager/chef in a beautiful alpine landscape, taking advantage of all the fun and excitement offered by the incredible Craigieburn Range only an hour’s drive from Christchurch, NZ’s second biggest city?

Porters Ski Area is looking for experienced managers of our Porters Lodge over the summer. This is the first year of operating the Lodge during the summer and the applicants will need to be self-motivated and driven to establish and grow the business. The Lodge is located in a stunning alpine environment, just 30 km west of Springfield and an hour’s drive from Christchurch Airport. The area offers year- round adventure activities partnered with unbelievable scenery. Castle Hill Basin is renowned for its limestone rock formations and outstanding scenery.The area is popular for many types of recreation including mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing and caving experiences attracting locals and tourists during the summer. By winter the landscape is transformed into a winter sports playground with our own Porters Ski Area complemented by numerous club snow fields and back country opportunities for snow enthusiasts. Local lakes offer fishing, kayaking and boating as other outdoor recreation options. This position would most suit a couple who not only love the outdoors but have the skills and proven experience to operate the Porters Lodge. They will need to run the bistro-style caf?and licensed bar which is open daily from 11am to 9pm. The 40-bed bunk room accommodation make it a busy place for groups and families looking for a special experience in the mountains this summer. The successful applicants will work as members of the Porters team to establish the Lodge as a unique place to visit for a meal and stay overnight.

Applicants need to enjoy interacting with people and sharing information with visitors as well as catering for and making comfortable up to 40 guests. We are looking for energetic, open minded people who are prepared to live and work in this lovely location, focusing on the established Porters reputation for friendliness, helpfulness and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Applicants will also need basic computer skills, NZ driving license, and, preferably a NZ bar manager’s license. Overseas applicants must have a valid work permit.

This position is for the summer (January- May), but may develop into permanent full-time employment continuing into the winter ski season.
